Meet the Red Hats: Our Construction Mentors & Leaders

At Habitat, we’re incredibly fortunate to have a dedicated group of long-serving construction volunteers known as the Red Hats. These experienced individuals form the backbone of our build sites, guiding both new and returning volunteers through every nail, beam, and blueprint.

More than just mentors, the Red Hats are leaders. They help shepherd group builds, first-time volunteers, and homeowners through the ins and outs of the construction process, sharing their skills and their passion for building safe, affordable homes. Behind the scenes, they work tirelessly to keep projects on track and ensure that every home we build is crafted with care, compassion, and the Habitat mission at its heart.

Want to Become a Red Hat?

The Red Hat's are a self-selected team drawn from our most dedicated and recurring construction volunteers. It’s not a publicly open opportunity—but if you volunteer regularly on our build sites, your leadership and commitment won’t go unnoticed.
You’ll see Red Hats at every Team Build, specialty build, and yes—even marching proudly in the holiday parade from time to time. Look for the Habitat SHR Red Hats and the steady hands that build not just homes, but community.
