It is hard to believe it's been a couple of weeks since our 2020 Women Build Week, which took place August 3rd through the 7th. We had some amazing women come and build with the future home buyer. Lekisha worked on the sweat equity towards the purchase of her home that week. She was joined by her sister, and two other Partner Families waiting for their dream of home ownership to become a reality.
We couldn't have done it at all without our many sponsors and supporters like WTKR News 3's Coast Live and Coastal Virginia Magazine, both of whom were media sponsors, and Platinum Sponsor Langley Federal Credit Union.
Community Builder Sponsors HRRA, Wall, Einhorn and Chernitzer, Tidewater Home Funding, and Dragas Companies sent teams of women to build with us. Unfortunately, South Bay Communications' build had to be cancelled because of a hurricane!! And we missed having CMS Mortgage Solutions join us for their shift, because they had a COVID scare in their office and felt it best to keep everyone safe. We look forward to both of their rescheduled builds in the coming weeks.
Additional shifts were also generously sponsored by Virginia Housing and our two other Platinum Sponsors Norfolk Tug- who sponsored our Heroes Build and Ironclad who allowed for us to open two shifts to women not able to make a donation to join. Both the Chesapeake Fire and Sheriff Departments were able to send many of their women out to help with the build.
Thank yous also go out to our Silver Sponsors: Mancon, Veterans United, ADS, Fulton Mortgage Co, London Bridge Trading Inc, John Edwards Termite and Bay Beach Veterinarian Hospital. Along with out Bronze Sponsors: Corbin & Company, Dennis Yatras, and Rose and Womble. All of these individuals and companies generous donations help pay for the materials and sub-contracted work for the house build. Without lumber, siding, plumbing, electricity and an HVAC system there wouldn't be a home!
Snacks, drinks and lunch were sponsored by companies like BK Appraisals, Mission BBQ, Chik Fil-a Battlefield (1516 Sam's Circle), Alex Serrano, Atlantic Bay, AAFMAA Mortgage Services, and Payday Payroll many of whom were able to send a women out to join the build fun! We are looking forward to our after party to be scheduled as soon as gathering size limitations are eased. Donations from companies like Virtexco, Towne Benefits and Planet Home Lending will be helping make the celebration of all the women's accomplishments possible.
In addition to all the women who put their muscles into the build, logistics volunteers like Cory, Ann, and Mary Catherine helped keep our builders hydrated and healthy. While Stihl helped keep them safe with their donation of PPE.
Most importantly we'd like to thank our Planning Committee Member volunteers. These women worked tirelessly to appeal to sponsors, endured two date changes, the threat of a complete cancellation due to COVID, and the stuffing 130 SWAG bags. Thank you to Sara Jo, Alex, Susan, Michelle, Hope and Joy!! None of this would have happened without your hard work!!
