Building Habitat Homes in South Hampton RoadsHabitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads currently has 1 house under construction and 2 more in renovations. Many more are in the the fundraising and planning stages. Habitat for Humanity builds its homes using volunteer labor, donated materials, and financial contributions. None of this would be possible, though, without the people whose efforts make Habitat a success. Habitat sponsors can be individuals, organizations or corporations, and some companies contribute to Habitat by providing materials, manpower and funding. Individuals also can get involved by donating to Habitat or by volunteering their time and expertise. Beyond the satisfaction of helping people help themselves, volunteers make new friends, learn valuable skills and watch a deserving family take possession of their first home. There are many ways to contribute:

Building on Youth ProgramWhile Virginia labor laws and safety concerns prevent youth ages 5 - 15 from working on an active Habitat job site, there are a number of ways they can participate. We have developed a "Building on Youth" program in which young people can earn their Habitat for Humanity pin by being involved in other aspects of the Habitat program. "Building on Youth" is a four-part program that involves learning about Habitat, helping Habitat by doing at least two activities, reflecting on the activity through art, and celebrating their accomplishment by sharing their art with the local community. We will present each youth participant who completes the program with a Habitat pin. Click on the button below to download more information about the "Building on Youth" Program. | |
