New and used items for sale: clothing, furniture, electronics, house wares, bedding, lawn & garden equipment,
paint, cabinets, building supplies, doors, windows and automobiles.
We accept donations of anything that is usable and not broken. ALL proceeds go towards Habitat’s
mission to eliminated substandard housing in the Hampton Roads community.
Habitat for Humanity is a 501(c) (3) organization whose mission is to eliminate substandard housing in the South Hampton Roads
community. The Habitat General Store will provide a steady flow of funds to help us do so, offer home maintenance
materials to low-income homeowners, and help preserve our environment.
Modeled after successful programs in communities throughout the United States, the Habitat General Store will also sell
surplus building materials donated from the hundreds of contractors and construction companies associated with Habitat.
These materials will be made available to the public through this retail outlet at a significant discount. The Store
will divert thousands of pounds of useable building materials from our landfills each year, provide an affordable source of
materials for small contractors and local homeowners, and help Habitat build more affordable homes for low income families
living in substandard housing conditions.
The concept is simple. Instead of hauling unneeded items to the landfill and paying to dispose of them, local builders,
remodelers, and homeowners donate them to the Habitat General Store and get a receipt for taxes. Donors gain through
reduced disposal costs, homeowners and small contractors gain through the source of affordable materials, and we all gain from
the reduction in garbage being added to our landfills.
Through the Habitat General Store, local business and individuals can:
- Preserve the environment
- Help local families
- Save money on disposal costs
- Get tax deductions for unwanted items.
