Angel was selected into the Habitat SHR program May 2011. Angel remembers the day the phone call came. "I was having a really bad day, hitting brick walls with everything I was trying to do, and then I get this phone call. It was the best news I had all day." She "is ecstatic to be selected and is grateful to be a part of the Habitat program." Angel knows firsthand what it means to give of yourself to a local organization that is a resource to your community.
Angel, a Norfolk native, is a single mother of an active outgoing 11 year old boy. She has found a family and support group within her job; being that her son was diagnosed with autism at the age of three. For the past seven years, Angel has worked for the Autism Society, Tidewater Virginia Chapter, and has enjoyed every minute of her job. She began with the organization as a volunteer which lead to employment in a field in which she is very passionate.
Her son will enter sixth grade this fall and his biggest highlight of the summer was participating in a Surf Camp designed for children with autism.
Angel is part of a close knit family that are all still within South Hampton Roads and remain her closest support group with Zevon. After graduating from Booker T. Washington High School, Angel attended ECPI College of Technology. She plans to return to school and pursue a degree related to providing services to those with disabilities – her newly discovered lifelong passion.
Angel is looking forward to the future when she and her son have a place to call their own and grow as a family. She looks forward to being safe in her home, and especially to a fenced in yard where her son will finally have a safe outside play environment.
